The Problem
Today I hit the following error after installing SQL Server 2008 R2 and then opening the SQL Server Configuration Manager console.
The remote procedure call failed. [0x800706be]
The Solution
This issue has been patched in later SQL Server Service Packs. In my case, I installed SQL Server SP2 and viola the problem was solved!
